A Girls Guide To Dating Guys From Some Guy

by Tru on Feb.01, 2009, under In Writing, Life

Couple SmilingI was browsing around msn.ca (considering it is the default homepage for all internet explorers) and found this crazy funny article on dating guys. The writer is Nick Krewen (I am assuming a dude) from Click Magazine (magazine publication developed for Lavalife). As the title explains, this article is for the girls who probably don’t know very much about dating the opposite gender.

For those who would rather read the article before my 3 cents go here.

Okay so here’s a quick run down on the 5 ‘activities’ girls must go through to successfully date guys:

1. Ribfest Date – Going out for a Rib dinner. Yum.

2. WWE Wrestling Date – Pretty self explanatory and for those who don’t know its basically going to a live wrestling match and just watching. You can leave the personal wrestling on the car ride home.

3. The Moto Cross/ Truck Pull/ Demolition Derby/ Monster Truck Showdown Date – Yup, exactly as you’ve read.

4. The Oktoberfest Date – For those who don’t know Oktoberfest there is simply too much info to pass on in this article. Here’s the background page. Let’s just say it involves a festival with a lot of drinking.

5. The Home Depot Date: – Yup. Go to Home Depot and work it.

–Here’s what I say–

1. Ribfest Date – Even though ribs are friggin delicious I wouldn’t say this is THE relationship maker.  I do enjoy other foods as well. A good old fashion hamburger or even, if you want to be classy, sushi with sashimi. Come on, not only does it taste good but might healthy for ya.

I think that as long as the company is nice and the environment is good enough for convo it should be a great night.

2. WWE Wrestling Date – Okay so what are we? 15? Are these ladies going for under aged kids? It was a phase a lot of guys went through and I think we’re all passed it now. So Mr. Nick get with the program…now it’s UFC all the way.

3. The MotoCross/ Truck Pull/ Demolition Derby/ Monster Truck Showdown Date – Okay so for those ladies who don’t want to watch guys kicking the crap out of each other try going to these obnoxiously loud venues. Great places where you can’t talk to the doode without blowing his hear drum and sniffing dirt fumes while eating your hot dog.  So maybe I am not the ‘typical guy’ but these don’t appeal to me. It’s cool that a girl is open to going to these events but I find it funny how these were specifically listed to successfully date guys. Hahaha…

4. The Oktoberfest Date – I haven’t been but I would most definitely like to go. Too bad it is in Germany. The basic idea is to simply go drinking. Most definitely cool if the girl is up for it and can hold her own. Wouldn’t mind a few drinking games just to make things playful.

5. The Home Depot Date: – And the writer of this article lost all of my respect when he wrote this one down. Really? Home Depot date? Yes, it would be nice if the girl did come along to help me get a few things to fix my jacuzzi if we were putting it together as a bonding experience but bringing a girl there for a date would be brutal. What I think, Mr. Nick is getting at, is to go place where the guy can show off his expertise. That doesn’t mean to a dead boring place where you will honestly not have a good time because we also want you to have a good time. I’ve always thought Ikea was a hugely fun place to go with dates. I gotta buy things for my house and a female perspective is always appreciated and, plus, we can try out the comfy sofas and beds.

–Overall Comments–

It’s articles like these that really mess with people in the dating game. I really do hope that when girls or guys read these articles that they look a little deeper for what the writer actually means versus taking it face value. I do give Nick some credit as he does state in the beginning of his article that it doesn’t take much to impress us guys  (nudity and a six-pack). I say fair enough, but gunning off a few things he may like doesn’t reflect the general public and is not GOOD advice.

All guys are different. Amazingly so are girls. So forget applying those direct tips and have fun on those dates and keep an open mind. I am sure the guy is as nervous as you to please but usually there is more pressure on his end to deliver. So go with the flow and if you need to…go for the typical movie then dinner set up to learn about what you both could do for a second date.

And I say movie then dinner because you now have more to talk about during dinner. Good luck.

If you haven’t already check out the article here.

President Barack Obama 2009 Inauguration and Address

by Tru on Jan.20, 2009, under Life

Barack Obama

As the whole world may know. The inauguration for the 44th president of the United States occurred today. An absolute historic event and something thatt was not blown out of proportion. Obama becoming president has truly shown the world how things are changing. But only time will tell if “Real Change” will occur for the new president and the US public.

A lot of confidence and high expectations are placed on Obama. I remain optimistic as we all need this new source of hope in the times that we share.

To find more info on Obama check out the official White House website. Crazy! They also have a blog too!

See below for the inauguration and address footage.
