Usher – Nice and Slow (Live)

by Tru on Jul.23, 2009, under Music Videos, Old School, R&B / Slow Jams

Crazy throw back track more than a decade old now. I’ll post the old video but I thought it would be nice to see Usher’s talent live. Yeah, I have to admit he brings a good show and can really get the crowed going…well…at least the lady crowd. No wonder he went through with the divorce.

If you look really closely towards the end you’ll notice this one guy going crazy when Usher’s doing his hip thrust. Hilarious but doesn’t spoil the song. Keep on bringing the baby makin music Ush.

Jeremih – Birthday Sex

by Tru on Jun.02, 2009, under Music Videos, New Music, Old School, R&B / Slow Jams, Reviews, Uncategorized

Newcomer Jeremih enters the rnb arena with a rather ridiculous song if you ask me.

If you haven’t heard the song before the basic run down is about the way the sex is gonna run down. Nothing much happens in the video of course considering he’s trying to go mainstream. I enjoy the percussive and vocal arrangements on this track. The auto-tuner is a little over used but I am not gonna deny how crazy catchy this one is. Maybe that is why it hit #1 on the US billboard R&B charts. Still can’t believe it.

He’s signed on to Def Jam – the same label as Ne Yo. Should Ne Yo be afraid? Nah, I think this track was released for shock value and Ne Yo has more vocal skills.  Jeremih’s debut album is coming out June 30th, 2009 if you’re interested.

Check Jeremih out on his MySpace or Def Jam page.

Tyrese – Sweet Lady

by Tru on May.13, 2009, under Music Videos, Old School, R&B / Slow Jams

What a classic. Tyrese’s Sweet Lady melted the charts back in #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart back in 1998. In my opinion, this one track set him on the r&b map.

A little bit of a cheesy video but I guess anything 10 years from now will seem like that. I like the idea of the dream sequence and him singing out loud on the bus. Brings Tyrese down to earth. Of course in the end he gets the girl. Just one thing…what’s the deal with the leaky roof? Does he really need to get soaked in it? Really?

Check out Tyrese’s Official MySpace for more info.

Brian McKnight – Never Felt This Way

by Tru on May.01, 2009, under Old School, R&B / Slow Jams

brian-mcknight

A soft piano ballad for you. Don’t let the slow beginning misdirect your judgment of this slow jam. It  may seem to start off sad but upon further listen you’ll hear the message of undying love. A little cheesy? Maybe too dramatic? Could be both but still a great track from Brian’s first album.

This song also caught the eye of Alicia Keys who made it into an interlude for her debut album, Songs In A Minor. You can check out both below.

Usher – You Took My Heart

by Tru on Apr.16, 2009, under Old School, R&B / Slow Jams

usher

Usher didn’t achieve wide spread acceptance till My Way. He was a slick confident young adult during that time but did you know he released an album prior to that with his then mentor Diddy?

Usher’s self debut album was a flop. Selling a little over 50,000 units causing Diddy to think twice about a follow up effort. Diddy dropped Usher but Ush was given a second chance and went under the wing of Jermaine Dupri. To this day Usher says he holds no grudges against Diddy which makes sense because Puff is a guy you wouldn’t want to be on the opposite side of.

Anyway, some industry reps say that Usher’s self debut album was a flop simply because of the image he portrayed. The market didn’t take him seriously because he was way to young to be singing about sex and love. Image aside he had some really good tracks on that album. One of them being this slow jam, You Took My Heart.

Go to Usher’s Official Page or MySpace for his most recent happenings.

Janet Jackson – That’s The Way Love Goes

by Tru on Apr.15, 2009, under Music Videos, Old School, R&B / Slow Jams

Possibly one of Janet Jackson’s best slow jam tracks to date. That’s The Way Love Goes was released in 1995 on Jackson’s Janet album. This jam went on to win a Grammy dominating the Billboard, US, UK, Australian and European charts.

An amazing track when compared to some of the music she has been releasing as of lately. The slow groove sound with light percussion really make this track a treat for the ear and open up the album this was placed in.

The video isn’t too bad either. It starts off really slow with alot of talking but the music finally kicking in around 1:40min mark. If pay close attention you’ll also see Jennifer Lopez in the throughout the music vid. I also included a performance on the Ellen show to see how she does it in real time.

Janet’s official page is under construction as she’s probably shopping around for a new label but her MySpace is still up.

R Kelly – Sex Me

by Tru on Mar.22, 2009, under Music Videos, Old School, R&B / Slow Jams

Remember this old track from back in the day? It was before the Chocolate Factory era and it’s a sexy jam clincher. Was listening the Bump and Grind album in the car and remembered just how great this song was.
Funny clothes? Yeah! Especially with R Kelly’s shirtless vest. Hahaha…What do you expect from a near 2 decade old track? Still a good song. Still…

Dru Hill – We’re Not Making Love No More

Remember this gem from a decade ago? Yeah, that’s right. Dru Hill! This track, We’re Not Making Love No More never graced a Dru Hill album but made its debut on the Soul Food sound track, hence those cut scenes in the video.

It’s an awesome track about troubles in a relationship that go so bad that fights are not even worth it. Imagine that. A relationship where the passion left and you’re with them for the sake of being with someone. Sad and emotional song.

Oh, in other news, Dru Hill is trying to make a come back. So check out their official site.
